Raw (non-alkaline) Occidental Crudo cacao powder is a local variety of Forastero, like most West African cacao it is characterised by a deep bitterish flavour.
Cacao powder contains less fat (10 - 12%) and more fibre than beans.

The cacao comes from small organic farms in Ghana and Côte d'Ivoire, certified (BIO) farmers are well remunerated therefore you can call this cacao fair-trade.

This cacao has not been processed or heated above 45ºC, so it remains truly raw and full of fresh nutrients.

Cacao was revered by ancient cultures as the drink of the gods, modern science proves that raw cacao is an extremely healthy food.

Properties of cacao

Cacao contains more antioxidants than red wine and 3 times more than green tea.

Cacao is an important source of tryptophan, which affects the formation of serotonin, and phenylethylamine, which supports the synthesis of dopamine, as well as a number of vitamins B, C and E.

In addition, cacao contains a number of mineral salts such as magnesium, iron, chromium, phosphorus, calcium, sulphur, zinc, potassium and selenium.

Furthermore, the high content of healthy cacao fat, theobromine and anandamide makes cacao a natural, mild stimulant.

All this makes cacao a natural, powerful antidepressant, mood enhancer and energiser.
